Shelley Holt, Los Angeles USD instructional director for secondary schools, was named one of ASCD’s 2013 Emerging Leaders for her work helping principals use data to develop plans for monitoring instructional outcomes.
BRIDGING STEM DIVIDES
Art Stellar was named vice president of the National Education Foundation, a nonprofit that works to bridge STEM education divides. His primary role is to help districts with disadvantaged students apply for federal funding.
Krista Moroder, the K12 technology integrator at Kettle Moraine (Wis.) Public Schools, received ISTE’s Outstanding Young Educator Award for using technology to improve learning and teaching. She has led the development of a multi-district technology integration framework and MOOC.
Greg Eisnaugle, a co-principal in the Tacoma (Wash.) Public Schools, will lead the district’s new Reengagment and Graduation Support Center. He will work on identifying students who dropped out of school or are struggling to graduate, and try to get them back on track.
NEW SCHOOL MODELS
Bernadeia Johnson, superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools, announced plans for creating autonomous zones modeled after high-performing area charters at about 25 percent of district schools. The zones will be implemented in the 2014-2015 school year.
