School psychologists bill in West Virginia up for a vote

A bill to increase the number of school psychologists in West Virginia is up for a vote Tuesday in the West Virginia House of Delegates.

If it passes the House, it will then go to the state Senate for consideration.

House Bill 2397, sponsored by Del. Martin Atkinson, R-Roane, states that beginning with the school year 2021-2022, each county school board shall employ full-time at least one school psychologist for every 1,000 kindergarten through seventh grade students, or that if needed, it may contract with school psychologists or psychiatrists. The bill, which does not list a cost, also says that each county board shall employ at least one full-time school psychologist.
