Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, solution providers are offering schools and districts resources, services and teaching materials at no charge

As schools and districts continue to be affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic, solution providers have stepped up by rolling out free teaching resources andco education services that promote online learning, offer advice, improve communications and even provide nourishment. Here are 353 free education resources and teacher services for K-12 leaders to consider.

Black Lives Matter

  1. BLM curriculum resource guide
    The national Black Lives Matter At School coalition’s has created lessons for every grade level that relate to the 13 principles of Black Lives Matter. These free downloadable lessons challenge racism, oppression and build happy and health classrooms. Challenge racism.

  1. Activity Works
    This interactive physical activity video curriculum used by teachers (K-4) in thousands of classrooms is offering more than 50 free learning videos for parents and children to use at home to get kids moving quickly and effectively.   2. De-escalation in the Online Classroom Course
    This guide helps educators adapt classroom skills for recognizing and de-escalating conflict or dissension online. The course was created by AllenComm and the Society for the Prevention of Teen Suicide. Manage online classes.

  4. SEL support page
    This page includes free on-demand teacher-led Second Step SEL lesson videos on emotion management for K-5, middle school remote learning advisory materials, online professional learning for educators including a free SEL Gratitude Journal, a new edutainment podcast The Imagination Neighborhood with research-based family-friendly activities for every day, and more.   5. 3D-printed respirator mask lessons and videos
    Detailed lesson plans and videos on how to print the first NIH-approved open-source 3D printed respirator mask with materials readily available at the local hardware store are now available through a partnership between pi-top and Maker Mask.   6. Securly
    The student safety company will provide a free audit using its AI-powered service that monitors student wellness and mental health levels. Securly will first set schools up with product free trials to start monitoring and flagging activity districtwide for 30 days. After this, student safety analysts will compile a customized report showing up to 30 days of student safety risks found, including cyberbullying, self-harm, violence, and abuse.   7. SEL support program
    Through June 30, schools can use this program for free to help students and staff grow more resilient in grades 4 through 12. EduGuide will also cover most costs for schools that choose to use the program for the 2020-21 academic year. Not available for individual use though parents can request their schools to join.   8. SEL and SPED solutions
    Rethink Ed, a K-12 social-emotional learning and mental health solution, is providing free daily distance learning training sessions, a parent resource center, a SEL toolkit and a SPED tookit.
  9. The Class That Can: Coronavirus
    This e-book, which teaches elementary students about the coronavirus and COVID-19 through the zany character named Mrs. Can, can be downloaded for free. Download the e-book.
  10. Track Your COVID-19 Symptoms Daily app
    This free application from ProcessMaker is for both confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases to register and track their symptoms daily. The site prompts participants to spend 15 seconds a day updating their health status, and infected individuals can compare their recovery with others around the globe.   11. Digital well-being guidelines
    This resource from the Center for Humane Technology examines using technology in better ways for kids, including how to make trade-offs for convenience and connectivity, create better tech environments for developing brains and how all screen time is not equal. Access the guide.
  12. Social-Emotional Learning curriculum
    The Free for Parents edition of this curriculum features a set of child-friendly curriculum videos and over 60 corresponding printable activities. Each short video presents a single concept or skill and printables allow teachers to practice what they learned about emotions and their own emotional responses.   13. Prevent the Spread
    For grades 3 through 8, this project based learning unit teaches students about their power to stop the spread of COVID-19. The unit includes what teachers need to conduct the lesson remotely. Prevent the spread.
  14. USDA Meals for Kids Site Finder and National Hunger Hotline
    The U.S. Department of Agriculture is working with states to continue providing meals to students. Meals can now be taken home, and parents or guardians can pick meals for their children if the state allows. Use the Meals for Kids Site Finder to find directions to nearby sites as well as hours of operation and contact information.   15. Internet Safety course
    Available for free until June 30, this six- to eight-hour course covers various topics, including cyberbullying, protecting oneself against predators, how to avoid viruses and malware, how to avoid harmful websites, social media safety, and an in-depth look at cheating and plagiarism.   16. Autism resources
    Stages Learning Materials is providing free resources for children with autism, including a COVID-19 emergency resource kit that includes free lessons, behavior management tools and a basic overview of how to use the Language Builder ARIS curriculum system at home.     Students can access a cognitive-behavioral curriculum to overcome self-defeating thoughts and behaviors and achieve higher levels academically and socially. Get free access.
  18. Real-time Emergency Response Flipchart App
    This school-specific COVID-19 quick reference guides are designed to help organizations better coordinate their responses to the pandemic, in addition to access to mental health resources.   19. Emotional check-in workshop
    Centervention has created a simple worksheet that asks how your kids are feeling, what their favorite new activities are, what they miss and things they are looking forward to. Download the worksheet.
  20. National Geographic Learning
    This Cengage Learning company is providing four lessons for elementary and middle school English language learners that teach about COVID-19, what they can do to protect themselves, and how they can make a difference.   21. TAP Online
    This free series of self-paced trainings for educators on social-emotional learning and behavioral health in schools features interviews with educators who share strategies and resources from their own professional practice.   22. Prevent the Spread
    Van Andel Institute for Education has launched a free virtual version of this project that teaches students how germs spread, how to stop the spread of the coronavirus and how to create their own public service announcements. Download this free PBL unit.
  23. Gemiini Systems telehealth/distance learning
    Gemiini Systems is making its web-based special education services available with no upfront costs for three months, or longer if the crisis continues. The company’s learning program is designed for people with autism, Down syndrome, dyslexia, speech delay, stroke, and others. Gemiini System’s Discrete Video Modeling sessions teach speech, language, reading, social, and life skills.
  24. NutriStudents free COVID-19 emergency menus
    The web-based foodservice support company is expanding its emergency menus to include an additional week of cold meals (for a total of four weeks) of menu options for programs operating under the Summer Food Service Program guidelines.   26. Aperture Education
    Aperture Education’s collection of free social-emotional learning resources includes downloadable strategies that educators can send to their students; professional development resources for educators including the EdSERT Optimistic Thinking Guide; and additional resources such as white papers, videos, and blog posts. Aperture’s parent portal offers additional resources for families.
  27. Copeify
    Patriapps is donating $5 million worth of software donations of Copeify, an app that uses AI-enhanced content and questions to help students and faculty improve their self-care, life-skills and coping capabilities.   29. Zenpower app
    For 90 days, higher ed students and staff can download the Zenpower app for free using access code 281270.   30. COVID-19: 5 Tips to Face Your Anxiety
    This free digital guide helps those who are suffering from anxiety due to the outbreak and can be accessed by anyone with an internet connection on their mobile device or computer. The guide addresses common concerns in five modules that identify helpful or harmful thoughts, how to take control of the stories we tell ourselves, putting things into perspective, educating on what to focus on, and occupying the mind and body with the right thoughts and actions.   31. Social Distancing Trainer app

    Child Trends has released materials that provide research-based guidance and new data to inform decisions about how best to meet the needs of all children and their families in the midst of COVID-19. Browse now.
  33. National Youth Violence Prevention Week
    Sandy Hook Promise has adapted its National Youth Violence Prevention Week (NYVPW) action kit to include activities students can participate in virtually for free. These online resources help keep young people engaged and safe while they spend more time at home and outside of school. The kit maps out a week’s worth of activities.
  34. Discovery Education SEL activities
    Discovery Education has partnered with numerous companies to create programs that promote social-emotional learning. The Discover Your Happy program equips communities with the skills necessary to reduce stress and create Sustainable Happiness. Ignite My Future in School program lets students explore computational thinking through the lens of critical questions such as “What does happening mean?” Students can practice self-management and responsible decision-making skills with Zen Zone Activity Guide, as part of the Soar with Wings: Social Emotional Skills for School & Life program.

  38. Contingency meals
    Revolution Foods is offering reimbursable meals, including cold and hot breakfasts, lunches and suppers. Revolution Foods will adjust delivery services to comply with ever-changing policies, such as San Francisco’s shelter-in-place, and will make sure meals are federally compliant and maintain a high level of nutrition.     Through April 30, ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI) is offering HLTH101: Preparing for an Influenza Pandemic as a free course. Based

  40. ExQ Superpower Hour
    The ExQ Superpower Hour activity that promotes Executive Function through self-reflection is now free. This exercise teaches the importance of practicing self-awareness so students can understand their Superpowers (strengths) and challenges to build confidence, empathy and develop a sense of purpose.
  41. Amazing Me
    Discovery Education and The Dove Self-Esteem Project have launched Amazing Me – a suite of classroom and family resources focused on building self-esteem, promoting positive body image, and countering bullying for 4th and 5th grade students. The Amazing Me site delivers social and emotional learning (SEL), health, and confidence-building content for educators.
  42. Mental health guidance: Natural disasters
    From Public Health Degrees, this article discusses How Natural Disasters Affect Mental Health and offers guidance to help those who are trying to recover as well as support mechanisms for those who experience such disasters.
  43. Hygiene Heroes
    This preventative healthcare project, based at UC Berkeley and run by a team of student researchers under Professor David Levine, has created a variety of exciting and interactive curricula for children to teach healthy habits. They have content on topics such as handwashing, safe water, and sanitation, and are currently developing new materials for COVID-19. All of their work can be seen here.

    The Center uses proprietary but free-to-use software that provides teachers with tools to create curricula and collaborative lessons. The free curricula allow students to collaborate with their teachers and peers in real time. All the curricula, which are stored in a searchable repository of online lessons, are developed and vetted by a core group of Michigan teachers that work with the Center.   3. Varsity Tutors
    This learning platform is offering more than 100 free live K-12 classes that last all day. Classes range from Spanish and java programming to fairy tales and a course called “Coolest Women in History” We have received exceptional ratings from thousands of parents and students. The platform also provides live half-day summer camps that last for a week. Topics include foreign languages, chess, theater, coding and Minecraft.
  4. Remote learning management platform
    Through June, schools will have free access to this analytic platform from K12 360°, an Innive solution. The platform is available as a cloud service with data integrated from preexisting learning management systems, digital textbook vendors, student information systems and others.     Accessibyte is offering free access to its entire platform of accessibility tools, which features assistive technology apps for students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf or have reading difficulties.
  6. Actively Learn
    This universal curriculum platform for grades 4 through 12 features collaboration and discussion tools, and can be accessed by any device. It also features integrated instruction for ELA, science, and social studies. Actively Learn can integrate with Google Classroom. Get Actively Learn.
  7. ADVANCEfeedback
    Vonage has partnered with Insight Advance to offer this online video coaching and observation platform that allows for both synchronous and asynchronous observations and coaching sessions. Get started.
  8. Numerade
    This free online education platform supports asynchronous online instruction through the “Office Hours” feature, which allows teachers to create videos on any topic using the recording and whiteboard system, build playlists from the more than 200,000 existing videos, receive anonymous student questions and provide video answers, track student engagement, and more.     Pearson is making a wide range of resources available to help K-12 teachers shift to online learning. Offerings include a webinar for special education teachers, sample schedules, wellness tips, guidance on virtual leadership and ideas for keeping students engaged in remote learning.
  10. Connections Academy
    Connections Academy, which supports online schools, is making its education experts available via an email hotline to help any K-12 teacher with online teaching. It also offering access to its webinars and other teaching resources for teachers and parents.
  11. McGraw-Hill AP test prep
    McGraw-Hill is offering free digital access to its “5 Steps to a 5” Advanced Placement test preparation guides for educators, students and parents. The online cross-platform courses will be available for 90 days for students who log in to get access prior to June 30.
  12. Impero
    To help teachers keep students on task while learning at home, Impero Software is making its Impero Education Pro web-based software free for the remainder of the school year to districts that do not already have remote monitoring software in place. The cross-platform product combines tools for online safety, teacher control, and real-time monitoring and session tracking for student devices. Teachers have access to key tools including live thumbnail view, broadcast screen, block list, live chat, and log viewer to ensure students receive continued access to education.
  13. Kaplan Test Prep
    Kaplan offering a month of free access to the SAT® Prep On Demand course with over 50 instructional videos and more than 1,000 practice questions and quizzes through this self-service website opportunity.kaplan.com. Kaplan is also offering Digital Classroom Resources—including articles, videos, and webinars—aimed at helping students, parents, and teachers navigate this period of online learning and working.   14. SMART Learning Suite Online

    Everyday Native is a free 4th to 12th grade online teacher’s resource that offers uplifting stories of today’s Native American youth. Everyday Native has launched a series of new videos that allows students to better understand Native youth experiences and U.S. history from a Native perspective.

    Young and The Invested provides a number of options for understanding financial concepts, how to approach basic financial topics, and how to begin building the requisite skills for leading a financially-informed life.
  24. Rhyming Multi-Sensory Stories
    Explore storytelling through the senses in a fun and engaging way with sensory ideas from this special needs education instructor based in the UK. Her Rhyming Multi-Sensory Stories for SEN, ASD, ADHD, PMLD, and EYFS are adapted to suit pre-schoolers to adolescent teens.

    4. Beanstack Distance Learning Reading Challenge
      For grades 2 through 5, this challenge promotes independent student reading through digital learning resources with free access to the Lerner Sports Database, which features athlete biographies using digital literacy tools that correlate with curriculum standards. Join the challenge.
    5. Morning Meet-Up and Story Time
      These 15-minute sessions feature children’s book readings and topics about breath work and emotional health. Live sessions take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 am CST.       Reading Plus is offering free instant access to over 200 teaching resources for teachers and parents. Printable packages help develop reading comprehension in essential comprehension skills, including close reading, main idea and themes, interaction of ideas, use of language, structure, point of view, imaging scaffolds, reasoning and rhetoric, and comparative reading.
    10. The Learning Network
      The New York Times and Verizon have granted 14 million high school students, and every high school in America, with free access to Times journalism, including all archived materials. These resources will help high school students identify and combat the spread of fake news.       Through August 1, districts can receive complimentary access to this platform that helps students with reading deficits succeed.       Available for the rest of the school year, this weekly current events-based program presents stories from around the world in a newsmagazine format.       Reading Horizons is offering a library of virtual webinars and lessons for free.     20. Weekly Welcoming Schools lessons
      Each week, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Welcoming Schools will offer a book and a related activity. The featured books will focus on embracing all families, and being an ally and respecting differences inclusive of LGBTQ identities. For its first week, HRC is offering a lesson plan and digital reading of Todd Parr’s The Family Book. HRC will provide a link to online readings of each book.       Achieve3000 is offering free remote learning resources. Achieve3000 Literacy at Home Digital provides access to non-fiction articles at three reading levels. Topics range from science and social studies to current events. Literacy printable packets contain comprehension questions that add up to one month’s worth of content that have been differentiated for students who are at-, below-, and above-grade-level readers.
    22. Pinna podcasts, audio
      Pinna, an audio-first platform for ages 3-12 with podcasts, audiobooks, and music, is offering a six-month trial for teachers who can get started with an email address—no credit card needed.     23. Special ed resource: Reading
      Bookshare: is a free, federally funded library of 900,000+ accessible ebooks for students with reading barriers such as dyslexia, blindness, and cerebral palsy. The collection includes textbooks, educational materials, bestsellers, young adult, and children’s titles. Students can read on virtually any device in formats including audio, audio + highlighted text, braille, and large font.
