But the leaves are there, green and alive—and for the teachers at this school, that's enough.

All three Arlington high schools have recently been rebuilt, but it appears they are already over capacity. Washington-Lee has seen its enrollment rise by 30 percent in the last six years, and this increase can be partially attributed to the abundance of transfers coming to the school for the International Baccalaureate diploma program.

Proposals for a construction manager for the endeavor that will add space to an existing Rudder field house and gymnastics facility were sent out June 25. A four-person committee composed of district employees and a representative from PBK, an architectural firm with which the Bryan school district has a five-year contract, selected three companies out of the 12 submissions through a two-step process.

A new elementary school could be in the town’s future if this week's school board discussions gain any traction. But that could mean delaying renovation work at the junior high school. Board members at the meeting agreed that a $38 million project to renovate Coffin Elementary School and Brunswick Junior High School would be too costly for the town to do all at once.

The measure requires approval by 60 percent of voters in order to pass; the measure received 66 percent approval to 34 percent no votes. According to unofficial vote totals from the Polk County Election Office, the measure received 3,599 yes votes to 1,852 votes against.
