The Ridgewood Local School District has named a new superintendent for the 2013-14 school year. The board voted to hire John Marks, current superintendent of Mapleton School District in Ashland. The vote was unanimous.

A veteran educator from Southern California has been hired as superintendent of the Soledad Unified School District. Rupi Boyd, who holds a doctorate among several degrees and credentials, was hired May 8.

During a Board of Education meeting this morning, Asheville (N.C.) City Schools Superintendent Allen Johnson announced his retirement following the end of this school year. The Board has agreed to a buyout of his remaining contract.

After just six months on the job, interim superintendent Dr. Tom Michaelson says he's stepping down as leader of the Nampa School District. The announcement came at the end of Tuesday night's school board meeting where board members also voted on more cuts to help make up the district's $5.1 million deficit.

Teachers in Tacoma Public Schools could be facing the first layoffs from their ranks in many years. The cuts, if they happen, will target only career and technical education (CTE) teachers, and likely no more than 10 of them. But that’s nearly 10 percent of the 108-person CTE teaching staff employed by Tacoma schools.

The Aurora Board of Education appointed D. Rico Munn as the next Superintendent of Schools Tuesday. Munn served on the Colorado Board of Education from 2003 to 2007 and was a member of Gov. Bill Ritter’s cabinet from 2007 to 2011.
