An act of kindness will mean new technology for Smithville School. A check for $150,000, which was awarded to the school and is part of a much larger donation given to Smithville Church of Christ, will go toward new equipment and a number of enhancements for the new school's Technology Center.

Britannica Digital Learning is developing over 300 new e-books aimed at young children. The majority of the new titles, which will be curriculum-aligned for K6 and below, will encompass science, social studies, language arts, and math. The e-books are expected to be available by June.

Epson America, Inc. has announced a 2012 holiday season initiative to help teachers acquire much-needed classroom technology for enhancing student learning. Through the DonorsChoose.org "Double Your Impact Program," Epson will donate two percent of purchases sold on Epson.com between Dec. 1 and Dec. 24, 2012, up to $100,000.

Update: The hearing scheduled for Nov. 28 on Andrea Hernandez's request to stay at John Jay High School was cancelled, after Northside ISD filed a motion to move the case from state to federal court. The district issued the following statement: "Since the Jay High School student and her father are alleging a violation of the student's federal constitutional rights, Northside ISD asked that the case be heard in federal court. The case scheduled to be heard today in State court has been canceled and now will rest with a Federal judge to make a ruling.
