Steve Atwater spent five years with the district, including his final role as superintendent, and he is moving on to become an Associate Vice President of the University of Alaska. He will be in charge of K-12 Outreach.
"It is hard to step down," Atwater said in a release. "I know the district has a clear vision for what is next and is well positioned with a strong team to continue to meet its goals."
The KPSDB school board entered executive session Monday evening to discuss options for finding a replacement, according to a release. The options are: a national search and a new hire, an internal or external appointment or an interim superintendent to finish out the school year.
