AltSchool raises $33M to give K8 education a modern tech makeover

A 36-employee education tech startup called AltSchool Inc. has raised $33 million to rethink the way elementary and middle schools are run, from the back office to the classroom.

Founders Fund and Andreessen Horowitz led the Series A investment, joined by First Round Capital, Harrison Metal, John Doerr, Jonathan Sackler, Learn Capital and the Omidyar Network.

AltSchool runs a few “micro-schools” in the San Francisco Bay Area, leasing school building space and operating the schools with its own personnel and proprietary software.
