Just in time for summer registration, Amity Regional School District #5 in Connecticut has selected Horizon Software International’s new MyCommunityEdPlus to market class offerings, process enrollment, and accept payments – all online – for all of community education courses, including: Adult and Continuing Education, Courses for Credit, Online Learning and Summer Enrichment and Make-up programs.

The District already utilizes Horizon’s MyPaymentsPlus, an online system that securely processes students’ school-related payments and registers their participation in key activities like field trips, athletics, arts, clubs and other extracurricular interests. A MyPaymentsPlus app designed specifically for meal payments is also available for meal payments to be made via iPhone and Android mobile devices.

“Horizon develops great products that make online payments and registration both simple and secure –for members of the community and those who manage the District’s Adult and Continuing Education finances and operations,” says Yvonne Klancko, director of the Amity Regional School District No. 5 Adult, Continuing, and Summer Education Programs. “MyCommunityEdPlus will make it even easier for people in our area to enroll in some great adult-education courses where they can pursue personal interests – or boost skills for professional advancement. It will also help us implement and manage our Adult and Continuing Education program more seamlessly.”

“MyCommunityEdPlus brings about a new way for the District to market its Adult and Continuing Education programs to the community, accept enrollment and process payments,” says Tina Bennett, vice president of online payments for Horizon. “It will help people find and start pursuing new interests faster than ever before.”

One very special course is “Solid Works Sheet Metal.” This is the next level up from the popular “Solid Works - Basic Essentials,” which is regularly offered at Amity High School Adult and Continuing Education. This is the result of a unique partnership with the Workforce Enhancement Committee of the New Haven Manufacturers’ Association.

Both “Solid Works” courses promote career opportunities on the cutting edge of precision technology. This industry partnership with Amity has been used as a model of enhancing necessary workforce skills.

Participants in Solid Works Sheet Metal will learn to use the “module” which includes the operations of folding, unfolding and converting a flat piece of sheet metal into a complex solid part. The program will involve the use of standard precision manufacturing processes to create a final product. It will be offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings on July 8, 10, 15, and 17 from, 6 -9 p.m. The cost is $300. Jeff O’Hara is the certified instructor.
