Ann Arbor schools to consider banning dogs from district properties

The Board of Education’s governance committee will be discussing Wednesday whether to amend the district's policy to give building administrators more direction.

No language in the district's current policies specifically addresses animals on school property.

District policy 5400 regarding safety, injuries and emergencies is the one that the board is considering changing. It states that the district's superintendent is required to ensure the safety of students, but does not mention specific measures that should be taken.

The ambiguity has led to inconsistent practices in each of the district’s buildings.
