Armed Security Stationed At Weehawken (N.J.) Schools

After the slaughter at the Sandy Hook Elementary School -- in which 26 people, including 20 children were killed -- police officers were assigned to the Weehawken schools as an extra safeguard for the district's 1,200 students, Mayor Richard Turner said.

Superintendent of Schools Kevin McLellan said retired police officers with concealed weapons and police radios are stationed at Roosevelt School on Louisa Place and Webster School on Palisade Avenue.

At Weehawken High School on Liberty Place, a police officer is present for the start of classes, during lunch time, and at dismissal, he said.
