ASCD, a global community dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and leading, announced today the new ASCD Professional Learning Services, enabling more school districts nationwide to receive greater customized professional development from the association. The ASCD Professional Learning Services offerings are customizable based on the needs of a district or school and are available in on-site or blended solutions.
What sets ASCD Professional Learning Services apart from other professional development programs is a commitment to integrating the unique needs and realities of a district into the professional learning ASCD will provide and fully planning the customized implementation. This is done through a clear communication plan, aligning major district and school initiatives to the work that ASCD Faculty experts are doing with leaders and teachers. All of ASCD’s professional learning topics and approaches are grounded in research and implemented with a focus on fidelity and consistency.
ASCD Professional Learning Services focuses on capacity building to enhance local expertise and ensure sustainability, preparing educators for continued success. The programs create opportunities for job-embedded learning, where professional development is occurring as part of the day-to-day work of educators. With a variety of signature capacity-building models to choose from and ASCD Faculty with expertise in a wide range of K–12 topics, ASCD Professional Learning Services offers the tailored professional learning and coaching support administrators and teachers need to succeed.
"ASCD prides itself on innovative professional development solutions and the expanded ASCD Professional Learning Services were developed with an eye toward the different needs and realities in school districts," said ASCD Executive Director and CEO Dr. Gene R. Carter. "Keeping this in mind, along with the busy schedules of educators and urgency to improve student learning, we’re proud to also offer online and blended solutions to reach as many educators as possible."
ASCD Professional Learning Services can design customized professional learning experiences based on a variety of world-class approaches, including those from
- Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, creators of the Understanding by Design® framework;
- Carol Ann Tomlinson, the foremost expert on differentiated instruction; and
- Robert Marzano and his art and science of teaching.
In addition, we can also integrate curriculum, instruction, and assessment areas of focus with a whole child approach to education, ensuring that each student in each classroom is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. This incorporates the vital social-emotional components to ensure success for every school, child, and family.
ASCD also focuses on providing professional learning through blended solutions, offering face-to-face experiences integrated with its innovative PD In Focus® and PD Online® digital products. PD In Focus is an essential on-demand professional development (PD) system that provides access to ASCD’s extensive library of online videos demonstrating effective teaching practice. Educators have access to tools that support job-embedded learning and influence instructional practice in their schools. Hundreds of videos are available that
- Feature ASCD authors and experts;
- Can be grouped into customized channels based on a PD plan; and
- Allow 24/7 access on most digital devices.
PD Online provides progressive learning modules linking practice with research and offers flexible course design to support each educator’s personal professional development needs. Other important features include
- Pre- and post-assessments, along with checks for understanding embedded throughout the course; and
- Job-embedded applications linked to real-world practice.
