BBVA Compass presented three Houston ISD students with 2013 Financial Services Roundtable Financial Literacy Scholarships to help jumpstart their higher education.

During an awards ceremony Tuesday night at BBVA Compass Plaza, Westside High School graduates Alex Suryapranata and Mateo Valencia, along with Sharpstown International School graduate Dora "Edith" Almazan, each received a $5,000 scholarship after completing a financial education course in high school. All three recipients plan to attend the University of Texas at Austin.

"At BBVA Compass, we know that encouraging financial education is essential to improving lives and the financial well-being of the people in the communities we serve," BBVA Compass Houston City President Mark Montgomery said at the awards ceremony. "The students' hard work and commitment to continue their education shows their drive to succeed."

Almazan, Suryapranata and Valencia were among 13 students nationwide to receive the scholarships. BBVA Compass has partnered with the Financial Services Roundtable to award these scholarships for three years.
