After four years of cuts in the Bethel School District, things are looking up for students and teachers in the upcoming school year.
Thanks in large part to 10 unpaid days that teachers agreed to last month, the west Eugene school district expects to avoid laying off any teachers or other staff members for the first time in four years.
“We feel pretty good about this budget because we’re not decreasing; we’re maintaining,” Superintendent Colt Gill said. “There was a sense of relief among the budget committee members who had spent the last four years cutting the budget.”
The school board will vote to adopt the 2013-14 budget at 7 p.m. Monday in the district office.
