Bethlehem, Pa., board rejects Advanced Military Aerospace charter school

The Bethlehem Area School Board on Monday unanimously rejected a proposed charter school that would have offered an aerospace science curriculum in a military-style setting.

In denying the application for the Advanced Military Aerospace Science Academy Charter School, school directors said the school wouldn't expand academic opportunities for students, failed to establish a practical plan for renovating its building and lacked both community and financial support.

"There's virtually no community support demonstrated," Superintendent Joseph Roy said after the meeting. "It's an overwhelming lack of support."
