Bloomfield's school board tonight selected its longtime middle school principal as its new superintendent tonight.
After a five-month search, the board of education voted 5-3 to appoint Salvatore Goncalves, principal of Bloomfield Middle School, to take the reins of the 6,100-student district.
"He's going to be great. I look forward to working with him," board president Emily Smith said despite voting against Goncalves. Board members Kent Weisert and Paula Zaccone also voted no, but pledged to work with Goncalves.
Goncalves has worked as a teacher and administrator in the Bloomfield School District for 39 years. He is also currently the interim director of personnel.
