Boston approves $975 million school budget

Over the objections of many parents, students, and the City Council, the Boston School Committee eliminated buses for seventh- and eighth-graders, one of many cuts it approved Wednesday night as part of a $975 million spending plan for next year.

One woman, after the busing vote, stormed out of the meeting at School Department headquarters downtown yelling “shame on you.”

The unanimous votes on the budget and cutting buses followed over two hours of impassioned testimony from dozens of parents, students, teachers, and community activists.
