Gone are the days when a new pair of sneakers and a trendy lunchbox were the must-have accessories for back to school.
This year the items will be less Lisa Frank — and more Steve Jobs.
Buncombe County schools will officially roll out the district’s new bring your own device program this week as some 26,000 students head back to school. The program encourages students and teachers to bring in their cell phones, laptops, tablets, and other devices for use in the classroom.
“It’s a big change for everyone, but I think the majority of teachers and definitely the students are excited about it,” Buncombe County Schools technology facilitator Robert Frisby said. “The job market doesn’t look like it did five or 10 years ago, and neither should classrooms.”
