California district hires Kirsten Alameda as superintendent

Capistrano Unified trustees have selected the superintendent of a mid-size Northern California school district to take the helm next month from outgoing Capo schools chief Joe Farley.

The district announced Thursday that trustees plan to hire Kirsten Vital, who has headed up the Alameda Unified School District since 2009. Farley retires July 1.

The board earlier this year hired a private firm to conduct a nationwide search for a replacement for Farley, who spent four years running the second-largest district in Orange County.
