California district names Alex Cherniss as new superintendent

The chief financial officer of the Los Angeles County Office of Education was approved Tuesday to become the San Marino Unified School District’s new superintendent.

The Board of Education unanimously agreed to give Alex Cherniss, 38, a four-year contract because he’s “so well-rounded” and came with superb recommendations, said Chris Norgaard, school board president.

Norgaard declined to say how many people applied for the superintendent position but said the district interviewed a great number of people who looked good on paper.
