Inland schools will get $12.7 million in Prop. 39 funds this week to plan energy-efficiency projects to school districts and charter schools, the state announced Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The total for Riverside and San Bernardino county districts and charter schools is part of more than $106 million statewide in the first round of funding to help begin planning the projects, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said.

“Energy efficiency projects in our schools will help create jobs, protect our environment, save money and create teachable moments for students all at the same time,” Torlakson said in a news release. “With Prop. 39, voters made it clear that they see support for education and the environment—and the intersection of the two—as a direct investment in the future of California.”
