Camden superintendent: A 'dramatic lack of rigor' in district schools

Camden Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard offered three anecdotes to illustrate the kind of situation he walked into when Gov. Chris Christie appointed him to the job six months ago.

The first showed how the district had placed near-insurmountable barriers in front of parents trying to get answers from their children'€™s schools.

It was less than two weeks before first day of school, and the new superintendent was making a morning visit to a school in North Camden. Outside the doors were 30 to 40 parents who were locked out, desperately seeking what Rouhanifard called "basic answers."
