Cherokee ISD Files Suit Against Texas

Cherokee ISD has joined 151 other school districts in the state to join with the Equity Center to file lawsuit against the State of Texas over public education.

One of the big issues at stake is the inequity of funding and one component of that is the hold harmless revenue that the state has placed school districts under.

The Hold Harmless feature keeps state revenue stagnant at 2005 levels. Any additional tax money that a district receives greater than the amount in 2005 reduces the same amount from the state’s share.
