Chesterfield School Leaders Approve Epinephrine Policy

Chesterfield County's School Board on Tuesday night approved a new policy that requires the division to provide at least two doses of epinephrine at each school.

The five-member board unanimously accepted the new policy on first review and it goes into effect immediately.

Prompted by the allergic-reaction death of Chesterfield elementary school student Amarria Johnson in January, the General Assembly approved a law that requires schools to keep the EpiPens on hand to administer to students in the event of a severe allergic reaction.

The policy, in response to the new legislation, needed to be in place by the start of the 2012-13 school year, which begins Sept. 4 in Chesterfield.
