Chicago Public Schools announced Sunday that schools will be closed Monday due to the extreme cold temperatures and high winds forecast for the area.
District officials said they believe Monday's sub-zero temperatures and winds will make it dangerous for children and families traveling to and from school.
“The safety and well-being of our students is paramount,” CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett said in a statement. “The decision to close schools is never easy. However, based on the severity of the weather we are expecting Monday, I am confident that this decision is in the best interest of CPS students.”
