Children headed elsewhere as two Michigan school districts are dissolved

The communities of Buena Vista and Inkster today became the first that will see their school systems dissolved under a new law after local officials missed a 5 p.m. deadline to find money to help operate next school year.

State and intermediate school district officials will now work to formalize the dissolution and reassign students to other districts.

“The dissolution process, pursuant to (Public Act) 96, will move forward,” according to an announcement from the state treasurer’s office.
