Colo. district superintendent backs $576 million construction package

Boulder Valley Superintendent Bruce Messinger is recommending a $576 million capital construction package for the district's next bond issue, including a new $45 million school in Erie, a new central kitchen and added classroom space to expand preschool and all-day kindergarten programs.

The recommended package is the largest of three options passed along by the district's Capital Improvement Planning Committee, which developed a complete list of capital needs that totaled $858 million.

The citizens committee and Boulder Valley School District staff members whittled the list down to three options that ranged in cost from $367 million to $576 million.
