Colorado's second-largest district passes $1 billion budget

The board of Jefferson County Schools on Thursday night passed a budget of more than $1 billion for Colorado's second-largest school district, up 3.2 percent from the previous year.

The final vote split along familiar 3-2 fault lines, with the conservative majority voting in the affirmative.

Board members Jill Fellman and Lesley Dahlkemper voted no largely because of a motion by the majority that boosted the increase in funding for charter schools.
