Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Compass Learning, a leader in personalized learning, today announced its Compass Learning High School curriculum has achieved certification from the University of California (UC) for the 2014 – 2015 school year. A number of college-preparatory courses have met the criteria established by UC to ensure that students can master rigorous curricula areas required to enter the University’s first-year program.

“Compass Learning is dedicated to building solutions that empower educators to ready their students for college and a career path,” said Lynelle Morgenthaler, Vice President of Content Development at Compass Learning. “In satisfying the University of California’s criteria, we are able to reaffirm the rigor of our courses that combine research-based instruction with fun, digital content and real-time, actionable data that accelerates individualized learning.”

In order to meet the UC's “a-g” subject requirements, each course was also evaluated for and received the California Learning Resource Network (CLRN) certification, confirming that they:

Meet at least 80% of the relevant California Content Standards or Common Core State Standards;

Fulfill all 15 of the UC-identified "power standards" from the iNACOL Standards for Quality Online Courses;

Satisfy at least 27 of the remaining iNACOL Standards for Quality Online Courses.

The high school courses that received “a-g” approval span the subjects of math, English, history/government, science, and world languages. Districts throughout California now have the benefit of adding these certified courses to their “a-g” course list without having to submit a complete course description to UC.
