Concealed-carry in Illinois schools is the wrong approach

The topic of guns in Illinois public schools is getting renewed local attention but for the wrong reasons.

Landon Laubhan, a Republican running in the March 18 primary for a chance to unseat Democrat state Rep. Sue Scherer in November, believes teachers should be armed in schools as a way to protect students.

That position may be tantalizing to some gun-rights advocates, but it is dangerous public policy that unnecessarily puts children’s lives at risk by having firearms in their vicinity and turns teachers into security guards.
