Connecticut capital appoints Schiavino-Narvaez as superintendent

Beth Schiavino-Narvaez, a top administrator in Maryland's Montgomery County school system, has been named the city's next school superintendent.

The board of education appointed Schiavino-Narvaez during a special meeting Monday night that drew about three dozen spectators who waited nearly two hours for the 8-1 vote.

Schiavino-Narvaez, 41, is expected to succeed Superintendent Christina Kishimoto on July 1, pending contract negotiations.
