Connecticut city to regain control of school after rift with charter group

The city school system intends to regain control of Milner Elementary School after a messy, two-year partnership with a charter management group it hired with state money to raise achievement, and later accused of failing its mission.

School officials said they have crafted a new transition plan that would limit the Jumoke Academy organization's role at Milner in the 2014-15 year, following a host of concerns that include a muddled curriculum and misgivings over the group's hiring practices.

A fall assessment showed rock-bottom reading scores in the early elementary grades.
