The state comptroller’s office released its first public school construction survey, which measured costs for Texas schools that opened between 2007 and 2013.
Data shows that Dallas-Fort Worth is the Texas metro area with the most expensive schools, second only to San Antonio. North Texas also had the highest number of new campuses (200) at an average cost of $161 per square foot.
Metrics used in the report include cost per square foot, as well as square feet per student and cost per student at capacity for context. Figures were adjusted for inflation and regional differences in labor and material costs.
