NSU’s doctoral program has a concentration in education leadership that focuses on the knowledge, skills and abilities needed by a chief executive officer. It combines senior administrative research with critical and creative thinking that will address educational challenges for today’s superintendent.

“The quality of the superintendent plays a huge role in determining the academic success of a school district,” said H. Wells Singleton, dean of education, NSU. “We’re proud to support the certification program and we’re hoping over time that a critical mass of superintendents with less than five years’ experience take advantage of the opportunity.”

“AASA is grateful to Nova Southeastern University for coming forward to partner with us,” said Daniel A. Domenech, AASA executive director. “This commitment underscores the importance of our mission—to advocate for the highest quality public education for all students and develop and support the CEOs and senior level administrators of the nation’s school districts.”

National Superintendent Certification, launched this summer by AASA, is a comprehensive professional development initiative designed to sharpen the leadership skills of the 21st century superintendent. Nearly 30 superintendents have been chosen to fill the first cohort of educators currently going through the certification process. These men and women were chosen from a pool of nearly 80 applicants.
