Donald Conyers is named interim superintendent of Staten Island schools

There'll be a new face in charge -- at least temporarily -- at Staten Island public schools.

Donald Conyers, a senior supervising superintendent with the Department of Education, is serving as interim superintendent, following the retirement of District Superintendent Erminia Claudio, whose last day on the job was Aug. 30.

"Donald has been a superintendent since 2005 and was a principal in New York City public schools for 13 years prior to that. He started today, since she retired on Friday," said Department of Education spokeswoman Erin Hughes.
