Edgenuity, a leading provider of online and blended learning solutions, today announced that its Common Core mathematics curriculum for grades 6-8 has been adopted by the California State Board of Education as part of the California primary math adoption.
“We look forward to working with schools across California to provide them with an individualized, student-centered learning experience for Common Core Mathematics,” said Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity. “More powerful and versatile than a traditional textbook, our engaging, online, research-based curriculum for students is coupled with tools that provide teachers with rich data to closely monitor student progress. Through this platform, we can help schools drive better academic outcomes and ensure students are truly algebra ready.”
Edgenuity’s grade 6-8 mathematics courses were built specifically to address the Common Core Standards for Mathematics. In developing the courses, significant attention was given to the major work of each grade, as well as to coherence, focus, and rigor. As students progress through the courses they will engage in extended problem sets and apply learning the context of real-world situations, preparing them for success in higher level mathematics courses.
California’s rigorous approval process includes multiple stages of review. In addition to a thorough review by trained instructional materials reviewers and Ph.D. level content review experts, courses must be recommended by the California Department of Education and then be approved by the State Board of Education.
