Edgenuity, a leading provider of online and blended learning solutions, today announced that its curriculum and instructional model have been reviewed by the Florida Department of Education and found to meet state requirements to serve as a Virtual Instruction Program (VIP) provider for grades 6-12. Florida districts are required to offer an online education option and can begin enrolling students in Edgenuity for the 2013-2014 school year. Edgenuity is one of three providers approved for the 2013-2016 approval period.
“Edgenuity has met the high expectations required by the state of Florida to become a VIP provider,” said Sari Factor, CEO of Edgenuity. “We’re looking forward to building partnerships with additional districts across Florida, providing students access to engaging curriculum and powerful online tools to enable them to be more self-directed learners and prepare for college and career success.”
Florida’s rigorous approval process includes multiple stages of review. In addition to evaluating course curriculum for alignment with state and national standards, the screening process assesses instructional services, research efficacy, staffing models, financial solvency and the academic results of current and previous student users. All virtual instructors must hold appropriate Florida state teaching certificates and meet the state requirements required of traditional instructors.
