Governor Dannel P. Malloy’s proposal for reforming education in Connecticut from early childhood through college and giving an additional $50 million in Educational Cost Sharing funding to schools was met with a mixed reaction in West Hartford.

Under Gov. Malloy’s proposal, West Hartford would receive an additional $919,940 or 5.7 percent, in ECS funding, increasing West Hartford’s total education grant to $16,996,060 for 2012-13.

“This is welcome news for West Hartford,” said State Representative Joe Verrengia. “I look forward to working ...to achieve these improved numbers, which includes an $89 per pupil increase in West Hartford.”

While Peter Martin, chairman of the West Hartford Republican Party agrees that West Hartford schools do not get a fair share of ECS funding, he also said, "I place the blame for that squarely on the shoulders of Representative Fleischmann, who is the Chairman of the Education Committee, and the other West Hartford state delegates for not doing a better job.”
