The school system is poised to end the year down about 150 students compared to last year, continuing a gradual decline in enrollments.
City schools had fewer students at virtually all grade levels, according to statistics recently compiled by the school administration.
It's a trend that's likely to continue for another three to five years before enrollments flatten out and possibly begin rising again, according to school board Chairman Christopher Wilson.
"The demographic studies have told us enrollment would dip for a few more years, so this doesn't seem unusual," Wilson said. "We've been anticipating this."
