Find creative ways to integrate arts in education

It is fitting that a community so rich in talent and focused on the arts makes every effort to reach out to the next generation when it comes to sharing the culture. Two local museums are doing just that, and it's important that we look for other opportunities to introduce and encourage development of the fine arts in young lives because they are important stitches in the human fabric.

This is especially so in the face of rigorous Common Core standards that test teachers when it comes to "extras" like the arts. To help, museum leaders are developing creative programs to work the arts into lessons that can be woven into the curriculum.

-- Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute is planning a conference to help identify the best ways to use its resources and how to work with schools. The institute also has been meeting with school faculty and staff presenting ways its resources can meet Common Core requirements.
