City commissioners, Broward County School Board members and Superintendent of Broward County Schools Robert Runcie addressed nearly 1,000 people in a town hall meeting at the Pembroke Pines Charter High School.
City officials called the meeting to ask parents, the school board and the state Legislature to support a bill that shares tax dollars equally between traditional public school students and charter school students. The parents responded that they would call on state legislators to support equal fundinguntil the bill is passed.
“Education comes first,” said resident and charter school parent Karlene Taylor. “I’m not about to let our kids suffer because they want to play the party line."
