Florida school district opens first dedicated wellness center

Tallahassee is home to plenty of fitness centers for exercise enthusiasts, but until recently, there hasn't been a place exclusively for those who work within the Leon County school district.

District divisional director Alan Cox said he noticed the district's 5,000 employees definitely wanted a place of their own to exercise, and hatched a plan to store away donated Florida Blue funds. After a few years, he had enough saved to purchase equipment and renovate a building on Lively Technical School's campus, leading to the grand opening of Leon County Schools' first Wellness Center.

"This is open to anybody who is a School Board employee," Cox said.
