Florida's education department received $1.5 billion from state lottery

People in Florida must be feeling particularly lucky this year.

The state lottery made a record-breaking $5.4 billion in fiscal year 2014. $1.5 billion of those dollars were contributed to the state's education budget.

About six percent of lottery sales go toward the state's education budget. Those education dollars are then administrated by the Florida Department of Education.
