Forsyth County Schools (FCS) is putting its i3 grant funds to excellent use, implementing a first of its kind combined assessment-LMS solution. The unique, comprehensive solution blends the robust LearningStation™ student assessment platform with the personalized digital learning platform from itslearning. FCS was selected by the U.S. Dept. of Education for the 2010 Investing in Innovation Grant (i3), at the time one of only twelve public school districts selected for the grant, and the sole recipient in Georgia.
Leadership at FCS set out to deploy a transformational solution that eclipses the current paradigm, which has resulted in silos of data. Its existing system will be replaced gradually with this fully integrated platform. The joint solution offers FCS educators standards-based learner plans as well as a content management system where activities, resources and more are matched to student performance levels, and individual learning styles. The LearningStation Assessment platform allows for both plain paper and online assessments, providing educators a rare choice between the two, while also feeding the assessment results back into itslearning’s grade book and instructional system.
Bailey Mitchell, Forsyth County CTIO, comments, “We are excited about the implementation of LearningStation’s Insight assessment solution within our schools. Our administrators can now access a robust formative assessment features within the itslearning learning platform to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for instructional content, grades and attendance and an online Community of Practice, designed to facilitate professional learning for teachers and leaders.”
Mitchell continues, “After reviewing several options we selected LearningStation Insight based on the capability of the application to handle our current district benchmark assessments as well as the teacher’s day to day formatives and summatives. Furthermore, we were impressed with the support offered by the LearningStation team and the flexibility of Insight to meet Forsyth Schools’ specific needs.”
LearningStation CEO Jim Kirchner states, “We applaud Bailey and his team for their tireless efforts to provide the best possible solutions for their students and staff.” He adds, “Our partnership with itslearning and the unique, comprehensive solution we offer puts us in a position to support FCS and their mission to increase student achievement, while saving them precious time and resources.”
Mitchell adds, “Key for success in implementing our federal “Investing in Innovations” grant was partnership. It was imperative that we engage the right partners to support a next generation learning platform, we feel we have.”
The multi-faceted partnership between Charlotte-based LearningStation and Boston-based itslearning has been formed to address the need in the market for a comprehensive, district-level assessment solution that provides educators with the ability to conduct secure online & plain paper testing, track student achievement, improve teacher accountability and more.
