Four finalists named for Nebraska education commissioner

A former candidate for Lincoln Public Schools superintendent, a Massachusetts education advocate and two Nebraskans are vying for the job as Nebraska Education Commissioner.

The Nebraska State Board of Education on Friday announced the four finalists from a pool of about 20 candidates. The board will hold public interviews with the finalists Wednesday and tentatively plans to name the next Commissioner of Education at a special meeting Wednesday or Thursday.

The successful candidate will replace former Nebraska Commissioner of Education Roger Breed, who had held the post since 2009 and retired July 1.
