G. Brian Toth to head up Pennsylvania district

Perhaps bowing to public pressure and demands for “local control,” the St. Marys Area School District’s superintendent search has ended in compromise with the district’s Board of Directors on Friday naming an outside administrator to the position while also installing local candidates in assistant and interim roles.

Dr. G. Brian Toth, who until now has served as head of the Bellwood-Antis School District in Tyrone, will replace outgoing St. Marys district superintendent Ann Kearney beginning Aug. 18. Kearney is leaving amicably after roughly two decades with the district.

The unanimous vote for Toth’s appointment came during a special meeting of the school board held Friday.
