Ga. Schools Encourage Family Involvement

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Barrow County School System has engaged in many activities in November to encourage family involvement in education.

Gov. Nathan Deal proclaimed November as Parent Engagement Month in Georgia. As noted by the governor, "…Parents have the power to ensure their children succeed in achieving their academic goals. Parent engagement can take place at home and at school."

November 12-16 was National Young Readers Week, a time when families are encouraged to check out new books. Barrow County School System used this week to also celebrate families reading together in a week-long event called "Get Caught Reading." Parents were invited to send photos of their families engaged in family reading activities while schools captured parents and students reading together at special events at the schools.
