Verducci disclosed his decision at Monday's Board of Education meeting, having earlier informed trustees in closed session.
Reading from prepared text, Verducci said that he would formally tender his resignation for the purpose of retirement, to take effect July 1, 2012. Without elaborating, he said, "My reasons for this decision are entirely positive, albeit personal. Simply said, my family needs me right now."
Referring to the recent parade of chief administrators leaving New Jersey amid Governor Christie's superintendent salary caps, Verducci said his action does not involve a new position. He also said the move is his own decision and not the result of any issue within the district.
