Ill. High Schools Look At Impact of New Standards

The district does not foresee many obstacles in applying the new standards starting in the 2013-14 school year because officials believe the district already provides a challenging curriculum.

"I'm not convinced we'll have to ramp up like the elementary schools are having to do because our standards have been high," said Dr. Bruce Law, assistant superintendent for instruction, who reviewed the history of how the standards evolved, and what it will mean for the district during a presentation at Monday's board meeting.

Starting in 2009, Law said 46 states banded together to establish common standards in math and English Language Arts.
