Ill. Officials Say Summer School Met Goals

A summer school program, one of a number of initiatives implemented by Valley View School District 365u, was effective in preventing learning loss and satisfied the majority of parents whose children attended last year, district officials said at a recent school board meeting.

Venus Smith, assistant superintendent, said students in the program saw little to no drop in their math scores and a slight improvement in their reading scores.

There were 442 students enrolled in the program, including 90 from out of the district. Those who took eight weeks of classes saw more benefit than those who took four, she said.
